Ο Chris Toprakcioglu είναι Καθηγητής Φυσικής στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στον τομέα της φυσικής μαλακής συμπυκνωμένης ύλης και ιδιαίτερα στα διεπιφανειακά και νανοδομημένα συστήματα. Η έρευνά του επικεντρώνεται κυρίως στη μελέτη πολυμερών, αμφίφιλων και αυτοσυναρμολογούμενων συστημάτων σε διεπιφάνειες μέσω ανακλαστικότητας νετρονίων και ακτίνων Χ (NR/XR), σκέδασης νετρονίων μικρής γωνίας (SANS), μικροσκοπίας ατομικών δυνάμεων (AFM), μετρήσεων επιφανειακής δύναμης, FTIR, επιφανειακού πλασμονικού συντονισμού (SPR) και ηλεκτρονικής μικροσκοπίας (EM). Πρόσφατα ερευνητικά θέματα περιλαμβάνουν:
Κινητική προσρόφησης συμπολυμερών κατά συστάδες σε στερεά υποστρώματα. Άμεση μέτρηση των αλληλεπιδράσεων μεταξύ στρωμάτων πολυμερών που προσροφώνται στη διεπιφάνεια στερεού-υγρού. Βούρτσες πολυμερών σε επίπεδες επιφάνειες και υπό γεωμετρικό περιορισμό σε πορώδη νανοϋλικά. Συμπεριφορά βουρτσών πολυμερών σε ισχυρά καθεστώτα ροής διάτμησης. Βούρτσες που ανταποκρίνονται σε διεγερτικά. Κατασκευή και δομικός χαρακτηρισμός λειτουργικών νανοϋλικών.
He has 52 publications in scientific journals and over 1800 citations with an h-index of 19. He has participated in over 40 international conferences and was invited speaker in 12. He has supervised a total of 17 PhD and MSc dissertations and has served as an examiner on PhD and MSc committees more than 20 times. He has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in physics, chemical physics and polymer science.
Έλαβε το πτυχίο Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) από το Πανεπιστήμιο George Washington, ΗΠΑ το 1976 και το διδακτορικό του από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Cambridge το 1981. Διετέλεσε μεταδιδακτορικός ερευνητής στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου του Kent, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (1981-1984), ερευνητικός συνεργάτης στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου του Cambridge, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (1984-1986), λέκτορας στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου του Cambridge, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (1986-1993), ανώτερος επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος στο Συμβούλιο Γεωργικής και Τροφίμων Έρευνας του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου (1985-1991). Εξελέγη Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών το 1993 και προήχθη σε Τακτικό Καθηγητή το 2002. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλά εθνικά και ευρωπαϊκά χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά έργα και έχει συνεργασίες με ερευνητικές ομάδες από διάφορα ιδρύματα, όπως το Πανεπιστήμιο του Cambridge, το Ινστιτούτο Leibniz για την Πολυμερική Ενδυνάμωση, το Εργαστήριο Leon Brillouin, το Saclay, το Πανεπιστήμιο του Εδιμβούργου, το Κέντρο Επιστήμης και Μηχανικής Υλικών και άλλα. Είναι κριτής σε πολλά διεθνή περιοδικά στους τομείς της φυσικής, της χημικής φυσικής και της επιστήμης υλικών.
